Are Stickers Eco-Friendly?
Share
That depends. Traditionally, custom stickers are made from plastic, which is not eco-friendly. However, we have a range of sustainable stickers that are made from renewable resources, vegan, and completely compostable.
Sounds too good to be true? Then read on to find out more about the world of sustainable stickers.
What makes stickers eco-friendly?
A sticker is eco-friendly when it does not harm the environment, conserves resources, and does not pollute the air, water, or land. It means that these products are non-toxic, do not deplete the ecosystem, and use natural ingredients.
This means it includes not only what the sticker is made of but also how the stickers are made. So wood stickers, for example, are not automatically eco-friendly if they contribute to deforestation.
Our eco-friendly stickers are made from natural and sustainably sourced materials (see below for a detailed breakdown), printed on a carbon-neutral printed that uses an UV cured ink, made with a biodegradable, acrylic-based pressure-sensitive adhesive, and shipped in eco-friendly packaging.
Which stickers are environmentally friendly?
As we mentioned, not all custom stickers are environmentally friendly stickers. See below for a breakdown of our sustainable options.
Biodegradable stickers
Biodegradable stickers are made from paper, but they are not just any recycled paper stickers. Instead, these sticky beauties are made from sugarcane fibre, linen, and hemp, making these stickers compostable.
The ingredients are mixed to create an uncoated paper with a beautiful matte finish which we use to create stunning colours. This material is ideal for sealing cardboard boxes, creating branded food packaging, and more.
Eco-friendly stickers
Then we have our eco-friendly stickers which are available in white, clear, holographic, glitter, silver and gold.
To create these, we use a material made from sustainably sourced wood pulp to which we add a biodegradable protective coating that makes these stickers waterproof.
As they are also made from natural ingredients, these eco-friendly stickers can completely decompose within 12 weeks.
If you do not know which option is right for you, we recommend getting custom samples. This allows you to get a feel for your options before purchasing.
What about vinyl stickers?
Traditional stickers are made from plastic materials, which is not great for the environment. However, there are different plastic materials we can use to make these stickers less harmful.
Usually, a vinyl sticker starts out as a plastic film which is often made from PVC, which you have probably heard before. PVC is not easy to recycle at all. This is why we use polypropylene for our vinyl stickers.
The use of polypropylene makes our vinyl stickers recyclable as this material can be reused widely. So you can simply throw your vinyl stickers into your recycling bin at home to give them a new life.
