How to Create Label Stickers in Word

Labels are a great way to add value to your products and packages. They give your customers a physical symbol of what your business stands for and they are an indication of the quality they can expect from you. The possibilities for labels are endless. Whether you are a promising e-commerce brand starting out, a reputable graphic designer, or a professional marketing corporation, online custom labels are an effective way of getting your message across.

If you are looking to create professional looking labels using Microsoft Word, our guide below will get you started.

Creating Your Label Design

The first step is to create the label design. It should reflect the identity of your brand. You can use pre-made templates or create something totally unique.

In Microsoft Word, in the “Mailings” tab, you can select the option “Labels” and use a template to create a label. Whatever you decide to use, it’s important to keep your design consistent so that customers recognise your labels and associate them with your business. On the other hand, you can also make a label for your business by getting creative with the elements listed below.

Shape and Format

In a blank document, select “Shapes” in the “Insert” tab. You can choose among circles, arrows, rectangles, triangles, and more.

Next, you can decide on its size and outline. To select it, go to the “Format” tab, and in the “Shape Outline” you will see “Weight”. There, you can choose how thick you want your outline to be and it's colour. In “Shape Fill”, you can change your solid fill colour.

Make sure to explore the different options that the “Format” tab has. You can even add an image of your own by selecting “Picture” and playing with the “Gradient” and “Texture” options.

Layers

You can also customise your label by adding additional layers to it. For example, if you want to include a white surface above your background design, go through the same process of creating the outline of your label, but position it above your existing pattern. Then, add text in the “Text Box'' option in the “Insert” tab. Make sure to place the text box where it is easy to read it.

Finally, whenever you are satisfied with your final design, group your layers. This will not only allow you to move the group but also ensure that they don’t move by mistake. In order to do so, hold down the “Command” key on Mac or “Ctrl” on Windows. Select each element of the label and right-click. A new menu should appear, and once you find “Grouping”, click on “Group.”

Printing Your Labels

Once you have a template, printing labels is easy. All you need is a desktop printer, some blank label sheets (which can be purchased at any office supply store), and some adhesive paper.

Load the template into Microsoft Word and print out your labels on the blank sheets. Then cut out each label using scissors or an X-acto knife, peel off the backing paper from the adhesive paper and stick them onto your product or package.

Alternatives To Microsoft Word

If Microsoft Word isn't available or if you're not well-versed in using it, there are plenty of alternatives. For example, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator are great tools for designing labels. Canva lets you customise pre-made templates easily. There are also many online services that allow you to design custom labels in minutes, like Figma.

If you don't have the time or desire to do it yourself you can also hire a graphic designer on websites like Fiverr or UpWork. Make sure to choose someone with high reviews to ensure that the results are professional.

Sticker It offers thousands of pre-made designs as well as the ability to customise your design. If you want a one-stop-shop experience, Sticker It can help you design, print, and deliver your labels easily.
