How to Put on Window Decals

Window decals are a fun way to show off your personality and promote and bring awareness to your brand or business. Whether placed on your doors, windows, or a storefront, window decals are a subtle way to provide a pop of colour and style while displaying your brand.

Many people hear the term ‘window decals’ and suddenly feel overwhelmed by the process of applying them to surfaces. We are here to shatter preconceived notions and reassure you that applying window decals can be a simple and fun project.

Not sure where to start? That’s why we have put together this handy how-to guide. While you are here, be sure to check out our latest post for tips on how to print custom bumper stickers!

Decal Window Application: A Step-By-Step Guide

Step One: Wipe the Surface Clean

The first step to applying window decals is ensuring that the designated surface is cleaned spotless and dry. Use a non-abrasive cleaner to wipe the surface thoroughly. When you are finished, there should be no evidence of debris, dust, or grime.

Remember that this is one of the most crucial steps when applying window decals. A decal stuck to a dirty or grimy window will not adhere properly and can result in bubbles and bumps on the decal.

Step Two: Pinpoint Where You Want Your Decal to Go

Before you remove the backing paper from your decal, assess and finalise where you want your decal to be placed. Use a tape measure to measure the size. It’s essential to confirm that the decal will fit in your desired space.

Use a pencil to mark the spot you want the decal to go. This will help you place the decal precisely.

Step Three: Peel and Apply

Once you have measured the space and know where you want your window decal to go, it’s time to apply it.

Carefully remove the backing paper from your decal. Avoid touching anything to the exposed adhesive side, including your hands. Every time the adhesive comes into contact with other surfaces, its adhesive strength is impacted, which can result in uneven application.

Once the backing paper has been removed, carefully position the decal where you want it to go. Press it firmly onto the surface and push upwards from the center out to smoothen the vinyl and remove any air bubbles that might have crept in.

Things to Keep In Mind

Applying a window decal successfully requires time and patience. The faster you try to apply the decal, the higher the chances of having a poor end result.
